+1 for Trillian on Windows, Adium on Mac. I’ve used both extensively and having a single IM client app that handles all your accounts is wonderful.

And for us Linux folks, Pidgin (what used to be Gaim) is well-done, but I prefer Kopete. Pidgin works in Windows as well. I use Meebo when I am using other people’s computers or a hotel computer and find it to be quite good.

+1 for Trillian, which is the oldest and most popular universal IM client, runs on Windows, Mac OS X, and iPhone, and is available for free. The free version supports Windows Live (MSN) Messenger, AIM, Yahoo, ICQ, and IRC. The paid version also supports Jabber (including Google Talk), Novell GroupWise Messenger, and Rendezvous. Since Trillian is a desktop app, it has several advantages over Meebo, including email integration, video chat, audio chat, and works with encryption software such as Simp.
